Trying Something New

As many of you know, I'm typically a stamping and paper craft blogger. I do love making cards and I am not about to put away my scissors and stamps. But lately I have found myself wanting to blog about other stuff outside of all things paper. Maybe I should just post those thoughts on my card blog, but it just seemed weird to me. I wanted a space where I could talk about whatever tickled my fancy. So, while there are already a gazillion blogs out there in cyberspace, I'm going to make it a gazillion and one. This is my blah, blah, blah space and welcome to it. . .

8.17.2011 - Day Zero - Trying Something New

It's 11:03 pm and my brand new freshman in high school is still up doing homework. I'm tired, my husband is tired and needless to say, so is the kiddo. We are only five days into the high school journey and each night the homework has been a little harder and has taken a little longer. Now, let's be clear, this is not your momma's homework. My sweet freshman is taking a string of courses that I never even knew existed when I was in high school. Classes like Pre AP Biology, Spanish II, Geometry, New Testament, English Comp, Competitive Debate. (Okay, so I did take English comp and geometry, but NOT my freshman year.) She and my mathematically gifted hubby are wrapping up the final geometry problem, but she still has two one page papers to write before she can hit the hay.

Long gone are the days when you could wrap up homework in an hour after school and still have time for band and basketball practice, not to mention dinner with your entire family. My kiddo is currently in ONE, count it, ONE extracurricular activity which requires 10+ hours of team practice per week and an additional two hours of individual practice with a private coach. Welcome to the world of competitive cheerleading!

Now before you click the close tab on my blog for fear that I am going to start down the "cheer mom" path - fear not. While I am certain I will share cheer related stories from time to time, and while cheerleading was huge part of my life when I was young, this will in no way resemble a "living-vicariously-through-my-kid" ego blog. What you will hear from me are stories about my family, my work, my random thoughts - pretty much what you would expect from just about all the other blogs out there.

Well, my kiddo just walked back in asking for help on her Saint Matthew one-pager. This is the last of the homework for tonight and almost time to call it a day - which is good, since tomorrow started about twenty minutes ago.

That hay is sounding pretty awesome right now . . .
